“Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. Indeed, it is a weapon unique in history, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As we honor Dr. King today, may we always remember what he stood for and may we continue to carry forth his ideals.

I love this post Cathy MLK is one of the people who inspires me every day. What a gift to the world he was and continues to be.
Thank you, Athena. Today is MLK day in the U.S. Also, today is the inauguration of President Obama. fitting, don’t you think? Yes, MLK was and is a gift to the world. I was a little girl when he was working so hard for civil rights and I grew up in the south in a racist home, but I always loved him and as an adult, I so value his principles. Thank you, dear friend, for your lovely comment.
Hugs, Cathy
Good quote Cathy. As I look at the image, I’m thinking of the seeds within the flower … the seeds that can make a difference in the future…..yep – the seeds of change.
Yes! Seeds of change. I shot this photo yesterday. Interesting that this “Christmas cactus” decided to bloom this weekend…
What a most fitting quote for the U.S.A. in particular as we are having lively discussions and beyond about violence and guns. This is one quote I had not yet come across. It is a perfect one to empower the human race.
Thank you, Aileen! I so agree. I searched for awhile to find this quite and I must admit it is one of my favorites by MLK. And so fitting for where we are currently in our evaluation about violence. Thanks for the comment!
Hugs to you,
Cathy
That bud, strong, delicate, complex, the world in a grain of sand, not violent and asserting its being.
Thank you, Clare. Yes, that was my intent. Truly. This plant is called a “Christmas Cactus” and is supposed to bloom at Christmas, but this year, it decided to bloom on the weekend of the celebration of Martin Luther King’s Birthday here in the U.S. Interesting – also today is President Obama’s inauguration…
Hear, hear! I heartily agree! I have a cactus sort of like this that my aunt gave me for my college graduation in 1993, so it will be 20 years old in May! It’s a spring bloomer, though they call it a Sunrise Cactus.
That’s amazing that your cactus is 20 years old! I love the cactus blooms. We have wild cactus here in Colorado – Prickly Pears that produce this huge yellow or pink flower in the spring. They are so magnificent for such an ornery plant.
Beautiful Cathy — the image and the sentiment!
Thank you, Brigitte. Hope you had a lovely day.
That is a message that is desperately needed today, isn’t it? Lovely.
Yes, it is so needed today. So many of the things that MLK said are truly timeless and so important. Thank you, Carrie.
lovely post. Thank you Cathy
Your welcome and thank you, Audra.
Nice, Cathy! Lovely post.
Thanks, Amy.
Amen, Cathy. Amen.
Yep, so true…
Beautiful post. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
