Home – a place, a feeling, a sanctuary where I can be myself. A place that feeds my soul and supports me in my life, my loves, my creative pursuits and my work. Colorado is that place for me. While it is not the place of my birth, it is the place where I feel all of these things and more. Here is a view of the Winter sunrise from my back yard. In seeing this view almost every morning, I breathe it in. These magnificent sunrises humble me and help me realize how blessed I am to live in such a place.
What does home mean to you?

Security… Safety… Comfort
Yes, Boomie. That sums it up for me, too. Thank you!
that is the most beautiful picture Cathy. Home is safe, comfort and PEACE..love and quiet. It is personal warmth inside and out.
Thank you, Audra. Yes, that warmth comes into my eyes every morning when I see sunrises such as these. Peace, ahhh, yes, that describes home for me, too. Thank you for this wonderful comment!
Cathy
That’s some back yard you’ve got going on out there Cathy. What a gorgeous view. Right now, in NYC, home is a massive dump of snow, sour adults shoveling, digging and grousing while small fry skip, play and smile; it’s been that long between major snowstorms over here.
V,
It is an amazing view. I feel so very fortunate to be able to live here. Yes, I heard about your snowstorm. Sounds like the whole Northeast is getting with Boston expecting about two feet! Hope all is well with that and you’re safe and warm. It’s snowing here today, just started about an hour ago. I’m not sure how much we’re supposed to get, but I don’t think it will be more than a few inches. We’re going out tonight to a symphony concert so I’ve go to pull out some wool dressies.
Cathy
I’m okay with snow, Cathy, and I expect it in winter, but not in uber industrial strength that kills people, causes power outages, cripples roadways and creates total hell on earth in hard hit areas. I don’t like that at all. NYC got lucky. If the rest of Northeast got off as easily as the city, it would be classified a moderate weather event instead of catastrophic.
Enjoy the symphony!
I love your photos Cathy, they inspire me. I live in my home now too though I was not born here. I feel like I belong here more than anywhere else.
Thank you, Athena. I’m so glad you’ve found your home, too. It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?

My wife and I decided in 2005 to visit Avon, CO to see a timeshare there. Flew in to Denver and drove west with our jaws in our laps the entire way. We feel in love with Leadville, Breckinridge, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Pike Peak, Independence Pass … the list goes one and on. We visit there more than any other … We both agreed that it’s “Nearer my God to thee”
Beautiful picture ….
Thank you, Peter. Yes, all of those places that you mention are jaw-dropping beautiful. I’m glad you and your wife have had the chance to enjoy our beautiful state and that you come back often. Nice to have your energy here. It is truly God’s country…I’m so grateful to be able to call it home.
Cathy
What an amazing view, Cathy. Home for me is safety, comfort, warmth. “Sanctuary” is definitely a word I would use as well. Not even necessarily for the geographic locale, or a specific room or place, but anywhere that gives me that feeling.
I agree, Weebs. It’s all in the feeling. One thing I find fun and interesting about our home is that when we do dinner parties, people don’t want to leave! I bet yours is the same way…
Love,
Cathy
Thank you Cathy for this lovely and thought provoking post.. about Home. I too love the area I live in, the snowy prairies, the view of the Rocky Mountains to the west, and this wee little ‘home sweet home’ I have created here with my loving hubby. The most wonderful place to live I have ever enjoyed, in this wonderful time of life when I am happier than ever. The old adage of ‘Home is where the heart is’ comes to mind, and I am ever so thankful for it. Thank you dear heart, for sharing your wise description of your home, and for encouraging us to share
Love and Hugs, Gina
Thank you for sharing, Gina. The place where we’ve been the happiest is certainly a great definition of home. And also something we create together with our loved ones. I’m so glad we’ve found our homes and each other!
Love,
Cathy

Home —-
Its like a protective shell which surrounds me from all that comes…
Its like a vast ocean that tries dissolves all my sorrows , fears & disappointments..
Its like a delicious platter that serves me so many joys & fills my life with wonderful tastes…
Its like a wonderful painting that has a blend of all colours at a single place..
Its like a performance stage where I have freedom to act & react the way I like…
Its like a temple where me and my family love & respect each other…
HOME….SWEET HOME…. It’s my “Heaven on this Earth”…
Beautiful, Akanksha! Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem here!
Cathy
Its my pleasure

Wow! I am pleasantly envious of your view each morning!
Home is somewhere I’m still trying to find and settle into
I have no place that is my own as of right now and I would love to change that in the near future.
Thank you, Vyv! Yes, I like that: “pleasantly envious.” I hope you find your special place soon. And I hope it has a “kick-ass” kitchen!
Hugs,
Cathy
Thank you! I just wanted to make sure you understand that I was envious but also happy for you! I’m not one of those people who is jealously hateful
Thank you, me too!! That is definitely one of my requirements
