For the month of March, the Weekly Photo Challenge is all about Phoneography – that is – photos taken with the camera in the cellphone. Luckily, I have an awesome camera in my iPhone 4S. While I don’t use it very much, this challenge reminds that I really should consider pulling it out more often as it does serve well when I don’t want to carry a bigger camera.
The theme for this week is “My Neighborhood.” Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny Colorado day, but luckily for me, I was at Winter Park skiing all day so I didn’t get any shots of my neighborhood. Today, we’re bracing for a mega spring snowstorm. You get to see my neighborhood as the snow starts to blanket our corner of the world.

This shot was taken with my iPhone 4S camera set on HDR (click on “Options at the top of the frame). Then I added my favorite iPhone accessory – an Olloclip fisheye lens. It’s an amazing little gadget that’s three lenses in one tiny package. It clips onto the corner of the iPhone over the existing lens and provides a fisheye lens, a macro lens and a wide angle lens. The only problem with it is that it’s so small, I have to be very careful about where I store it because it’s easy to misplace! For more information about the Olloclip click here.

“Phoneography”—I didn’t even know such a term existed. Always learning, I am.
I know! I heard the team for the first time about a year or so ago. There’s a website called iPhoneography.com, which it a really fun blog about still shots and videos taken with iPhone cameras. It think that’s where I heard about the Olloclip. Yes, I suspect you are always learning, Carrie. Maybe you can include the term in your next book!
There you go! I’m sure I can work it into my killer’s vocabulary somewhere…

Thanks, Amy! It’s really a great addition to the camera on the phone. I’ve always wanted to try fisheye photography, but the lenses for a DSLR are expensive and I wasn’t sure how much I’d use it. I’ve really had fun with this.

Great addition to the phone camera! You received more snow and it came in a lot earlier in the south of town then up north and such a lovely pic you captured. I thought the panoramic feature was awesome on the iPhone. Love this fish eye that does even more. Good find Cathy.
Thank you, Aileen! Yes, I like the panoramic feature on the iPhone, too. Have you tried the HDR High Dynamic Range) setting? It seems to make a difference in contrast. Yes, we got a couple of inches here, but nothing like what was predicted. If you like taking photos with your iPhone, you might really like the Olloclip!

My phone is an iNothing i.e., a dumb phone that I use for talk that can send a text, but the camera is useless. The images are never focused, there’s no zoom and I think they’re about 1/2 a pixel. So I carry a point and shoot.

Thanks, V. The truth is that this iPhone is my first since Apple hooked me because of iCloud. Yes, Steve got me! My only computer is a MacBook Pro – I use it because it works, doesn’t crash and is extremely polite. Then I do own an iPad because I don’t want to spend $80/month on Wifi at the office since I’m only checking email and internet stuff for 45 minutes a day during lunch and iCloud syncs all of these devices for me. iCloud is specially great for the calendar. So the camera in the iPhone is just a bonus. Of course, being self-employed, I could write all this stuff off. And the Olloclip? I just could not resist the opportunity to have a fisheye lens! Always wanted one, but couldn’t justify the expense. This little baby was sixty bucks and has an amazing macro to boot. So there you have it.
I’m still stuck on the ground with my vintage six-year-old MacBook, but I’m not complaining, since it still works fine.
Mine is 3 1/2-years-old and works great. It is my first Mac and I must admit, I’m now an Apple convert. After multiple Blue-screens-of-death I was finally ready to try a Mac. I’ll never look back.
I went Mac in 2000. It’s true, once you go Mac, you never go back. I loathe PC’s (what I have to use at The Grind).

You and I are of the same accord. Loathe is the word that comes to mind. I wouldn’t own one if it were free. I’m a little ashamed to say that I’m somewhat judgmental of people who say they prefer PCs. I mean, really? Why? Are they masochists or something?
Neato! I just got the iPhone 5, and the camera is so much better that I’ve been using it to take my Etsy pictures and such. Much easier than hassling with the big camera! I like your little clip lens there, too. Cool.
